Vacation in Ha Giang
Ha Giang province is beautiful, and is as of now relatively untouched by tourism. Not many people come this far north.
The city of Ha Giang is nothing special and has nothing that really makes it stand out. At 70,000 people there is surprisingly next to nothing to do, outside of coffee and karaoke. There are some nice villages nearby with friendly people, such as Thon Tha village, 6km northwest of Ha Giang City.
Village nearly Ha giang City.
The real reason to come to Ha Giang is to do the Ha Giang northern motorbike loop (Ha Giang –> Yen Minh –> Dong Van –> Meo Vac and back to Ha Giang is the good choose. This ride is absolutely stunning. With nice weather, this will be the highlight of your Vietnam trip. You can book a local tour guide from us , but this is really hard riding and you won’t stop very much to actually appreciate what you’re driving through. If you do it yourself, it is much more rewarding. I highly recommend spending 3 days driving. Plan on averaging 25 – 30 km/hr. You will go through many Hmong villages and those of other ethnic minorities in the north of Vietnam. Meo Vac and Dong Van have great weekend markets which are very interesting if you can time it right.

Cot co lung cu is a nice stop, although it’s a little out of the way. It is the “north pole” of Vietnam. There is a nice lookout and giant flagpole you can climb. The stretch of road (19km) between Dong Van and Meo Vac is widely considered the most beautiful scenery in all of Southeast Asia. This, if nothing else, is enough of a season to do the trip. It is spectacular.
